We are two private families that live at the Dunbar residence. The haunted house is led by Brad, who is a teacher, and Gideon, who is an artist and stylist, and their partners Annamaria and Sakura. They are helped by their families and friends.
The haunted house is free to enter. We collect donations that go 100% to charity. This year’s charities are the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, the Vancouver Police Union Charity Foundation, and the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau.
Last year we raised just over $30,000 for the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, the Vancouver Police Union Charity Foundation, and the B.C. Childhood Cancer Parents’ Association.
We are open from October 15th to October 31st from 1 pm to 9 pm on weeknights, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Live actors spook nightly from 6:30 pm. If you want to bring young children or are easily scared, come visit during the day since some of our night-time displays and interactions may not be suitable for these audiences. If you want the full-fright experience, come at night and be prepared to be spooked. Visit during the first week we are open for a less crowded experience; the nights approaching and including Halloween night are extremely busy, with line-ups that can take up to 1 hour.
There is street parking available on the streets adjacent to the haunted house but expect to park up to three to four blocks away when it is busy. Please respect our neighbours and don’t block any driveways. And please remember that this is a residential area, so drive slowly and carefully.
No running. No touching.
The haunted house is not legally wheelchair accessible since there are two single steps at the rear of the house. However, we will be happy to help you negotiate these steps and we encourage you to visit. Most of the walkway is at least 36" wide, but the narrowest spot is 31" wide.
No, although one room is dedicated to the costumes used by our spooks.
No. The inside of the house is our private residence.
A long time! Last year’s haunt took about three months to set-up; we started in the beginning of August. This year we started during the last couple weeks of July.
We get most of the props, including the masks and costumes for the figures, from various companies in the U.S. Most of these companies specialize in providing products for the haunt industry. We have also found quite of few very unusual props in Vancouver, mainly from film rental shops and production companies. Everything else we build, using scraps and supplies from hardware and building stores.
Storage is one of our biggest challenges and we have several storage lockers around Vancouver. Every year we build and acquire new items, and every year we run-out of space.
Volunteers consist of family and friends. We are not accepting additional volunteers at this time.
